How to end your contract in Single Graduate or Student Family Housing
Residents of university-owned housing are bound to the terms of the contract or rental agreement they signed upon acceptance of their offer. All contracts and rental agreements end on July 1st. If a resident wishes to terminate their contract or rental agreement early and vacate their apartment, there is a process that must be followed. The Procedures are different for tenants in the Weyburn Terrace & Hilgard Apartments of University Apartments North (UAN) and the tenants in University Village, Keystone-Mentone, Venice-Barry, and Rose Avenue of University Apartments South (UAS).
- University Apartments North - Contract Termination
All incoming Weyburn Terrace and Hilgard Apartment residents who have accepted an offer may request to cancel their contracts at any point prior to the contract start date by notifying our office via e-mail of their decision to terminate. We will process the change. A $400 cancellation fee may be applied.
Current residents of Weyburn Terrace or Hilgard Apartments who are interested in terminating their contracts early must submit an appeal to terminate. If you are submitting an appeal to terminate for financial reasons, please see the submission process here. If you are submitting an appeal to terminate for medical reasons, please see the submission process here. All other appeal reasons, should follow the standard submission process outlined here. Note: Because Law and Medical students are on a semester schedule and their programs end during the month of May, they may opt out of the final month of the contract as long as they provide notice to Housing Services. This opt-out option may be requested at any time by sending us an e-mail at [email protected].
- University Apartments South - Notice of Intent to Vacate
All incoming Keystone-Mentone, Rose Avenue, Venice-Barry, or University Village residents who have accepted an offer may request to cancel their contracts at any point prior to the contract start date by notifying our office via e-mail of their decision to terminate. We will process the change. The security deposit paid may be kept as a cancellation fee.
Current residents of UAS do not submit an appeal to terminate. Instead, you are required to submit your Notice of Intent to Vacate (NITV) via the housing application portal at least 30 days prior to the date you wish to vacate your unit. If you wish to vacate prior to the minimum of 30 days, you certainly can but you will still be charged up until your NITV date.
