BRUIN ANNOUNCEMENT
University Village Wi-Fi and Spectrum Upgrades Updates
Sepulveda Residents,
This message is a status update on the work Student Technology Center along with Spectrum are performing to bring UA Family Housing new high-speed fiber WI-FI internet and SpectrumU video streaming services, to replace the older residential coax service.
We have been working to ensure implementation of the high-speed WI-FI internet with no interruption to your current service by installing new WI-FI hardware and new network lines into your unit. We are nearing completion and we have four remaining buildings to complete. Nonetheless, the new WI-FI service is up and running and would like to encourage you to take a moment, hop on the new WI-FI, and experience the new service!
From your smart device, tablet or laptop simply look for the following public network names to log-on.
- UCLA_Guest
- This network does not require password to access.
- UCLA_Housing
- This is a password enable network and requires password along with your UCLA B.O.L (student) credentials and will prompt you to authenticate with a push notification.
- Click on UCLA_Housing and enter the following password: UCLA@partm3nt! to continue.
Please keep in mind that we are not finished and still need a few more things to complete, but if you do experience WI-FI issues you can always connect back to your current WIFI connection.
Here are a few questions and answers about the new WI-FI service.
- No more cable top-set boxes are required.
- All internet connections will be done via WI-FI.
- Ethernet cable connections are no longer being supported.
- You will be able to manage your own Personal Area Network also known as PAN. (See STC website for more information)
- Smart devices including PlayStation, smart speakers, printers, etc. also known as IOT’s will be connected via your Personal Area Network (PAN).
- WI-FI or smart enabled TV’s will require a Roku device, Apple play.
As we move closer to the completion date sometime towards the end of March, you will receive email notifications along the way keeping you up to date with the latest instructions, updates, and news from the Student Technology Center.
The Student Technology Center would like to thank you for your cooperation during this upgrade and our apologies for any inconveniences during the installation.
