Housing Delinquency Cycle

Housing charges for most residents can be found in the Regular Term Bill on the BruinBill. If your housing charges in the Regular Term Bill. If your housing charges are in the Regular Term Bill, the collection process is handled by the Student Accounts Office, and your account will follow the standard collection cycle as with Tuition.

Eviction protections for non-payment of rent expired on March 31, 2023. Beginning April 1, 2023, tenants must pay their current monthly rent in order to avoid eviction for non-payment of rent.

COVID-19 Rental Debt
The Declaration of Local Emergency for the City of Los Angeles states tenants must pay their COVID-19 debt as follows in order to avoid eviction procedures: 

  • Rent owed from March 1, 2020 to September 30, 2021, tenants must pay by August 1, 2023.
  • Rent owed from October 1, 2021 to January 31, 2023, tenants must pay by February 1, 2024.
  • Rent owed from February 1 2023 to March 31, 2023, tenants must pay by March 31, 2024.

If rent is not paid by the 20th, will I receive an eviction notice on the 21st?
No. Student Accounts will notify you of the delinquent status and a late fee and record restriction may be applied prior to a notice of eviction.
